How to Be Present Throughout the New Customer Journey for Vacation Packages

Winter holidays represent one of the most competitive periods for travel brands. During these weeks, travel agencies, airlines, tour operators, hotels, and attractions concentrate a significant portion of their commercial efforts on capturing the attention of users who are already planning their next trip. However, generating bookings no longer depends solely on displaying attractive promotions; it requires building demand, capturing intent, and supporting increasingly planned and digital purchasing decisions.

For years, the digital strategy for selling vacation packages seemed relatively simple: appear when someone searched for a destination, drive traffic to the website, and convert that intent into a booking. However, the travel purchasing journey has changed dramatically. Today, people discover destinations long before they begin actively searching and make decisions based on multiple touchpoints spread across social media, search engines, video platforms, and digital media.

Trip planning no longer necessarily begins on Google. More often, it starts with a TikTok video, an Instagram recommendation, a content creator showcasing an experience, or even a banner ad that sparks interest in a destination the user had never considered. This means that travel brands no longer compete only when purchase intent already exists; they also compete to inspire travelers.

The challenge for companies in the tourism industry is understanding that the customer journey has become much longer, more fragmented, and omnichannel. A user may discover a destination on social media, research prices several days later, compare options through search engines, watch videos on YouTube, and only weeks later complete a booking. If a brand is present at only one of these moments, it will likely lose relevance to competitors that accompany the traveler throughout the entire decision-making process.

One of the most common mistakes in the tourism industry is concentrating investment exclusively on campaigns designed to capture existing demand. Search remains a fundamental tool, but limiting the strategy to users who are already searching means missing the opportunity to influence a vast number of potential travelers who have not yet decided on their next destination.

The brands that achieve sustainable growth are those that simultaneously invest in demand generation and intent capture. Before searching for "Brazil vacation packages" or "Caribbean holidays," people first need to discover options, imagine experiences, and establish an emotional connection with a destination. This is precisely where platforms such as TikTok, Meta, YouTube, and Programmatic advertising play a decisive role.

To understand how this theory translates into tangible business results, we will now examine three success stories that demonstrate the impact of connecting with travelers across multiple channels to spark interest, sustain consideration, and ultimately accelerate sales.

Success Story 1: Inspiring Travelers Before They Begin Searching

In a campaign developed for NSA, we implemented an omnichannel strategy combining TikTok, Meta, YouTube, and Programmatic advertising to maximize destination visibility and generate interest during the early stages of the decision-making process.

The strategy generated more than 6.2 million impressions and reached over 1.2 million unique users. TikTok and Meta expanded reach and engagement among relevant audiences, while YouTube provided greater depth through audiovisual formats that generated more than 540,000 video views with view-through rates exceeding 60%. Meanwhile, Programmatic advertising helped maintain brand presence and increase exposure frequency across different digital environments.

The results demonstrate how an integrated strategy can inspire travelers and position destinations in users' minds long before they conduct an active search, strengthening brand recall and consideration during the initial stages of the customer journey.

Inspiration has become one of the most important stages of the travel marketing funnel. Short-form video formats make it possible to showcase experiences in a much more immersive way than traditional formats. A tour of beaches, local cuisine, hotels, or activities can generate interest even among users who are not yet planning a trip. In many cases, the destination is chosen before any search even takes place.

As users move forward in their research, new opportunities emerge for brands. YouTube enables deeper storytelling through longer-form content, while Programmatic advertising helps maintain visibility and frequency throughout the consideration process. Combining these platforms builds brand recall and supports a decision-making process that can extend over several weeks or even months.

When purchase intent finally emerges, Search continues to be one of the most relevant channels. However, results tend to be significantly stronger when users have already been exposed to the brand beforehand. Search is no longer the beginning of the journey—it becomes another stage within a process that started much earlier.

Beyond performance metrics, the strategy's greatest contribution was keeping the brand present throughout a purchasing journey that, in tourism, often lasts several weeks. Through Programmatic advertising, it was possible to accompany users while they researched destinations, compared options, and moved closer to making a decision, reinforcing brand awareness and increasing the likelihood that the company would be top of mind when the time finally came to book.

Success Story 2: Maintaining Brand Presence Throughout the Decision-Making Process

In an Always-On strategy implemented for a tourism company through Programmatic Display advertising, the objective was to accompany users throughout their research process by maintaining a consistent brand presence across different digital environments as they evaluated destinations and travel options.

The campaign consistently generated between 1.7 and 2 million monthly impressions, driving approximately 2,000 clicks per month while achieving an average CTR of 0.12%, a solid performance for branding and consideration campaigns in Programmatic advertising. Additionally, the strategy maintained an average CPM of 1.2 and an average CPC of approximately 1.4, optimizing media investment while sustaining high levels of visibility.

The strategy's greatest contribution was keeping the brand present throughout a purchasing journey that, in the travel industry, typically extends over several weeks. Through Programmatic advertising, it was possible to accompany users while they researched destinations, compared travel alternatives, and progressed toward making a decision, reaching them across websites and applications that were relevant at that stage, including specialized travel portals, travel search engines, and review platforms such as Tripadvisor.

As a result, the brand remained visible in high-intent environments, reinforcing brand awareness and increasing the likelihood of being considered when users were finally ready to book.

Success Story 3: Capturing Intent When Travelers Are Ready to Book

In a strategy developed for a tourism company specializing in domestic and international vacation packages, we implemented a media ecosystem built around Meta Ads and Google Search, combining demand generation with intent capture.

The Meta strategy focused on inspiring users and generating interest through content related to destinations, getaways, and travel experiences. During the analyzed period, the campaigns generated more than 470,000 impressions, drove over 7,600 website clicks, and maintained CTR levels above 1.6%. Content featuring specific destinations delivered the highest engagement rates, confirming that inspiration continues to be a key driver throughout the travel decision-making process.

As users progressed in their research, Search assumed a central role in capturing existing demand. Campaigns targeting destination-related searches, vacation packages, and branded keywords generated more than 33,000 clicks from 179,000 impressions, achieving an average CTR of nearly 19%, well above typical industry benchmarks.

While Meta successfully generated destination discovery and interest, Search captured users with much stronger purchase intent, facilitating the transition to commercial inquiries and the evaluation of travel options.

One of the most important lessons we have observed in the tourism industry is that no single platform can solve the commercial challenge on its own. TikTok can generate inspiration, Meta can expand reach and support remarketing, YouTube can deepen consideration, Search can capture intent, and Programmatic advertising can reinforce brand presence throughout the entire customer journey. The true competitive advantage emerges when each channel fulfills a specific role within an integrated strategy.

It is also important to recognize that travel decisions typically involve both significant financial and emotional investment. Unlike many other categories, travelers compare alternatives, read reviews, evaluate budgets, and consider travel dates before making a final decision. As a result, brand building has a direct impact on performance outcomes.

The tourism companies achieving the strongest results today understand that the sales process does not begin when someone searches for a vacation package. It begins much earlier—at the moment they succeed in inspiring interest in an experience, a destination, or a different way to travel.
